Cashing in those points!

So you know how so many things offer you "points" for buying them?  Well it's time for me to cash in.  We've been pondering what to get Miss Zoe for Christmas this year.  She's too young for some really fun "girly" toys, and has all the hand me down baby/toddler toys from Elliott.  What to do, what to do?

I've been accumulating Pampers, Huggies and Disney Movie Rewards points for several years now and I decided its time to cash in on them!
With my Huggies points I got her a bead maze, that will suction cup to the table or high chair tray...handy no?
I need to save up 200 more Pampers points, so today I'll be scouring the internet for some extra codes and I need to buy diapers anyway, so I guess I know what I'll be looking for.  But once I get those 200 points, I'll get her the Fisher Price shopping cart I was already planning on buying.  $25 saved!  That means that I can put the $25 toward the food to load the cart up with!
I haven't decided what to use the Disney Movie Rewards points for...I was leaning toward a Snow White keepsake box, but that seems silly for a baby.

It's not even November yet and I'm still ticking off items for Christmas, by the time Black Friday rolls around, I'll be sitting in my pajamas drinking coffee while you crazies are out at 4am elbow to elbow fighting over a singing Mickey Mouse.  Ahhh, sweet free victory!

Dove Deal @ Target This Week!

Right now (thru 10/22) Target is running and awesome deal on their Dove hair care products!  If you buy 4 you get a $5 gift card.  I purchased 2 shampoos, 1 conditioner & 1 hairspray.  The prices all ranged from $3.44 to $3.49.  The best part is that there was a Buy One Get One Free coupon in the paper a few weeks ago, and of course I have 2 coupons...DUH!

So I paid approxmately $7 for all 4 products and then got a $5 gift card back...so in essence $2 for enough hair care to last me several months.  YIPPEE  for luxurious locks!

Now if I can just find two more of those coupons in my mega stack of "To Clip" papers, I'll run back out there tomorrow!

How Time Flies - And How It's Spent

I cann't believe how long it has been since I've sat down at the computer to really write.  Over the last few weeks we've had some changes at work and I put in extra days and hours, which really changes the home dynamic for me.  And I'll be honest, I'm a real creature of habit, so an upheaval in my schedule is rough on this mama.
Also, we took a weekend trip to visit my husband's wonderful family in Kansas, so I feel draw from every direction!
And as if all of that and the upcoming holiday season isn't enough, we've decided to undertake some major home redecorations.  Not renovations...now is certainly not the time!  Since Zoe was born our home has been in a constant shuffle...trying to figure out who gets what space of the house and toys and garage sale crap spilling out from ever nook and cranny.

ENOUGH!!!

So here are the steps we've taken so far to improve our space... Remember my post about my husband buying a new TV?  Well it's finally been extrocized from it's ugly home in the corner.  We bit the bullet and paid $50 to have our cable outlet redrilled and relocated.  Then we moved our record collection from being hidden in the office to being front and center in the living room.  Rather than purchase a new entertainment center we've repurposed something we really love.

So we are in the process of fixing up this room for Zoe...In the time we've owned the house it was first our room, then Zoe's room then an office/crap room.  Now it's high time this lovely lady has a place of her own.  We already have tons of darling accessories and a beautiful bed; so now it's time for the real work to begin.  Over the next few weeks Josh and I are throwing ourselves into this project.  Sanding and repainting the baseboards and trim a crisp white.  Removing the ripped up wallpaper and painting it a lovely shade of green.  Replacing our hideous 80s ceiling fan and trying to make a useful closet space out of a long narrow mess.

Needless to say it's going to be rough.  And there will be $$$ spent.  So now more than ever it's important for me to dedicate myself to appropriately spending our funds.  No spluring on deals or clothes.  No more stockpiled gifts for Elliott, he's reached his max.

I did get a brand spankin' new ceiling fan on Craigslist for $12 that should be perfect, and now I'm currently on the hunt for a tall dresser and/or bookcase that I can paint for Zoe's room.  Nothing fancy, just functional.

So hopefully I'll be able to scrounge up some old pics of the house to compare with the updated, and then finished product.

Also, I'll be endlessly clipping my way through the inch thick stack of coupons I've let accumulate over the last 3 weeks (naughty naughty), all on top of trying to work from home during the day while Elliott's at school.  Oy Vey!

It's going to be a true exercise in penny pinching and productivity, but I think that the end result is something we want so badly that all the blood, sweat and tears are worth it!

Cheapskate Love

So last night I had the distinct pleasure of getting a heck of a deal at Walgreens (which I will post later today)...but I also was so excited to actually have a fellow customer compliment me on how I managed to get my transaction from almost $30 to $2.75 out of pocket!

I was so pleased to stop in the parking lot and chat with this gal, and her friend who arrived as we were both leaving.  Its so nice to know you aren't the only one out there trying your best to get a good deal.

Also, I got to be a coupon fairy to not one, but two fellow shoppers yesterday, and nothing feels better than to help someone out!

I look forward to seeing more avid couponers out and about in Lincoln...wear your Cheapskate Pride on your sleeve folks!  Carry your coupon binder everywhere with you.  Admit you go to 4 stores in one day and stalk the sales aisle...there's nothing wrong with saving a dollar...or a thousand!

Stock Up Sale @ HyVee

There are 2 deals that end today that I think you MUST get out there and buy!

The first is that Huggies Diapers (all types) are on sale for $5.99.  In the paper a few weeks ago, and also in the mail if you've signed up on the Huggies website there were some $3 coupons for the new Huggies Slip On diapers.  So that makes these only $2.99 - AWESOME!  Even better is that you will earn $5.99 baby bucks...a small dent in the $150 baby bucks = $10 gift card scheme.  I bought 3 bags yesterday and I'm headed back to buy 2 more today.

The second is shredded cheese.  If you're like us and you go thru a metric ton of cheese a month, you know how expensive it can be.  Regularly shredded cheese is almost $2.50 a bag...but yesterday and today HyVee has their bags on sale for $0.99!  OMG I can smell the quesedillas now!  There is a limit of 4, so I bought 4 at the Williamsburg store yesterday and I'll be stopping at the O Street store for 4 more today.  They'll go straight into the freezer and I should be able to get thru the next 3 months without having to buy and more.

So get out there Lincoln, but don't clear the shelves of size 4 Huggies, I'm on my way!

What can you get for $0.42?  How about a snot free nose, great looking lashes & smooth legs?

Today I bought:
Schick Hydro Razor - On sale for $8.29, used a $5 manufacturers coupon and got $3 Extra Care Bucks.  Total: $0.29
Kleenex - Priced $1.29, used a $1 CVS coupon
Total: $0.29
Covergirl Professionals Thick Lashes Mascara - Priced $5.89, used a $3 CVS coupon
Total: $2.89

So I paid with $2.99 in Extra Care Bucks and $4.42 in cash, but I earned the $3 ECB from the razor and $1 from using my Green Bag Tag, making my total $0.42!

You can't beat that with a gold plated stick if you ask me!
