Sunmart Super Deals 8/25/11

Holy buckets guys, amazing deal on General Mills Cereal this week at Sunmart!
Here's the breakdown, in this week's ad there is a $10 store coupon if you buy 6 participating General Mills Cereals.  Plus there is a catalina coupon that will print for free eggs and milk on your next visit...AMAZING!

Lucky for me, Cheerios were included in the deal because as I posted in here there were $1 Cheerios coupons in my diapers, so I had 4 to apply toward any Cheerios!  Also I had $1/2 that I applied toward Elliott's beloved Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

That being said, here are the totals:
6 Boxes of Cereal (Various prices from $3.13 to $4.93)
2 Cans of Frosting ($0.75 each)
1 Box of Cake Mix (clearanced to $0.99)
Bananas $0.83
Green Grapes $2.49

$10 Store Coupon
$5 Manufacturers Coupons
Grand Total: $11.69
Plus - $5 Milk & Eggs Rebate

So break out those General Mills coupons and get shopping folks, it's so rare to get a decent box of cereal for less than $1.50!

Lincolnites: Super Cheap Baby Formula

Hey Lincoln Moms & Dads - I was scoping out the sale items at Walgreens on 17th and South and they have TONS of formula on clearance.  Most of it was Similac Sensitive and Similac Organic, in full size tubs for over half off!
If you're like me you aren't picky about the type of formula you use, and a deal is a deal.  I know they say you can upset a baby's tummy switching formula, but I did that with Zoe frequently and we never had a problem, she really never even spit up!
So if  you're on a budget or need to stock up for your bundle of joy, I'd suggest going right away.  It's the very back of the store on the endcaps near the toothbrushes and pain relievers.
Good luck friends!

Monday Morning Inspiration

Online Shopping With Ebates

So I'll confess, I love online shopping.  Not necessarily the shopping part, but just the drooling over awesome things I cant afford and will never see in Lincoln, NE.

Although there are some huge benefits to shopping on line:
  1. No lines
  2. No dressing rooms
  3. No kids - enough said!
  4. And did I mention discount codes!!!
The best site that I've found to share with you is
It's easy, it's fast, they provide you with discount codes both for % off and free shipping if it's available and best of all, if the store you're shopping at participates with ebates (and almost everything I've used does), you earn a certain % of your purchase as cash back!

Case in point, my new Dyson vacuum.  First I searched for Dyson and it brought up all the stores that sell Dyson vacuums and the price range.  This did take some narrowing down since I didn't have a particular model in mind.  Then I found that Sears had the lowest priced vacuum, so I searched for Sears.  Low and behold...4%cash back on my purchase!  So I bought my vacuum and then a few weeks later received my quarterly rebate check in the mail.  $17 back, just for buying something I was already planning on purchasing!

I frequently check out, and about every other monthy buy one on 's Daily Deals.  This time it was some lounge pants 2/$12 with free shipping.  Granted I only earned $0.36 cash back, it's still something more than nothing.

I really plan on putting my Ebates account to use when the holidays roll around, since it's a little hard to shop for Christmas gifts while the kids are actually WITH YOU!

So not only am I giving 2 big thumbs up, but I'm attaching the link to refer you to their site thru me.  Duh, if I can earn a cash bonus for referring you, why not!  So here it is...check it out, make a purchase and begin your new life as an online shop-a-holic!

Thanks to my "sponsors"

Just a quick note of thanks to my "newspaper sponsors": Barb, Judy, Martha & Opal, you have helped me tremendously!

I got some amazing deals today that wouldn't have been possible without you passing along your coupons my way!

Today @ Walgreens:
4 sample Degree deoderants : $1.12 - $0.75 coupons = $1.48
Walgreens Register Rewards: $4
Thanks to you gals I MADE $3.52 cents on deoderant!

4 tubs of Lysol wipes
2 bottles of Lysol Bathroom Cleaner = $15.00 - $3 coupons = $12.00
Walgreens Register Rewards: $5
$7.00 total or $1.16 per item  **AMAZING**

Thanks again for your help or my couponing would be in vain.  It's sad to think that just buying 1 newspaper isn't enough to make a huge dent in your budget.  But amazing to know that with the kindness of neighbors, family & even strangers  you can change the way you spend, save & live!

Back To School On A Budget

So we're almost ready for back to school.  In just a few weeks Elliott will start Pre-K Monday thru Friday afternoons.  I'm sure it will be hard on all of us since I've been home during the days to enjoy his crazy antics.  But at the same time, I'm counting the days like a kid with an advent calendar (only mine has bottles of tequila behind each door)!  **Thanks to Jane Wright Jones for that idea**

But now to tackle a big topic, back to school shopping.  I don't believe in it.  Seriously.  All the prices are jacked up and everyone will rush to the stores to buy the same clothes and who will you see at school?  Your child's doppelganger.

I even overheard this most obnoxious comment from a woman and her mother shopping at Von Maur:
"We should definetly buy this here...the other mothers will be shopping at The Gap"
I wanted to slap this bee-otch, but restrained myself.  I'm happy to know that Elliott will strut his stuff in frugally purchased  clothes that reflect his personality, not our income bracket.

"So how does one shop for back to school if we don't hit the stores 3 weeks ahead of time?" you may be asking.  Shop all year.  If you child is a size 4, you know what comes next, we've all watched Sesame Street.  Plan for the next year when that season's clothes hit rock bottom.  Case in point, today I just scored some denim shorts that were half off, plus I have been holding on to some $2 off kids denim coupons for Target.  They'll be ready for Elliott next summer and I won't have to run out and pay full price.

I fully endorse Target, 100%!  Not only do they have great sales and clearance, but recently they've had killer clothing coupons online.  I printed off several 20% off Shawn White coupons and we used them today on shirts that were already clearanced to $3.98.
I will say I got a few steals for myself as well.  $3 off Mossimo coupon I applied toward a clearanced tank top to make it 75cents!  And $5 off denim bottoms coupon I applied to clearanced jean shorts that made them FREE!

Moving on from that rant...I also LOVE garage sales.  That nasty lady I encountered at Von Maur will surely have a garage sale and her $50 Ralph Lauren shirt will be Elliott's for $2 or less...  I try to map my garage sale stops around the other stores I shop at so I can hit one on the way to CVS and then another on my way home.  It's a win win situation!  Craigslist has been invalueable at scouting out garage sales and their subsequent free leftovers.

Yes people, I am not at all afraid of picking up the crap left at the curb.  That's what bleach is for.  As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, Zoe got a practically new ring stacker from the curb; and she loves it just as much as if I'd paid $15 for it.

Also, it pays to have friends and family.  I have been incredibly fortunate to have 3 amazing ladies who have passed oodles of their girls things on to me.  Truthfully, I won't need to shop for Zoe for the next 3 years.  And I am so grateful for their generosity, it's things like that that give you faith in people nowadays!

So the long and the short of it is, plan ahead.  Would you rather pay thru the nose now or little by little thoughout the year to clothes your kids?  I know what my answer is, and also why Elliott has clothes up to a size 9 in his closet!

A Trip Down Nebraska's Memory Lane

So yesterday we decided to try out the Nebraska History Museum for the first time.  (Okay, not my first time, but it's probably been 15 years at least!).  There is no admission fee, just a suggested $2 donation which we were happy to make.  We were there for probably an hour and a half, and Elliott truly enjoyed himself.  I could have stayed much longer and really examined the items on display, but with both kids, that's not exactly a highlight.  Anyhoo...

My initial disclaimer about this visit is that it was not the most "kid friendly" activity.  There were some amazing displays that I just had to gloss over as I'm not quite prepared to discuss WWII with my 4 year old and  he certainly is not interested in Willa Cather.

There was a really great Inspiration Station for the kids that we really enjoyed!  A teepee to get in, a covered wagon to load and a pioneer town to build.  As you can see, they were both entertained.

Unfortunately just outside the kids room was a large display regarding racial intolerence in Nebraska.  I sweat being there with Elliott was like Forrest Gump's view of history.  As he sees the two KKK uniforms he loudly remarks "Look at those old scary ghost costumes!"
Forrest Gump Quotes
Forrest Gump: [voice over] Now when I was a baby, Mama named me after the great Civil War hero General Nathan Bedford Forrest. She said we was related to him in some way. What he did was he started up this club called the Ku Klux Klan. They'd all dress up in their robes and their bed sheets and act like a bunch of ghosts or spooks or something'. They'd even put bed sheets on their horses and ride around. And anyway, that's how I got my name, Forrest Gump. Mama said the Forrest part was to remind me that sometimes we all do things that, well, just don't make no sense.

But by the time our visit was over, Elliott was truly enthralled!  We got to see what our homes would have looked like living in different time periods, and remind him that there was not always the luxury of TV, computers and radio.  A point that really rang home when we had no power for 2 1/2 hours last night!
He absolutely loved all of the Native American artifacts and talked Josh's ear off about the headdresses and weaponry.

So kids or no kids, put the Nebraska History Museum on your "To Do" list.
Enjoy your trip down Nebraska's memory lane.

Also on a side note...Morrill Hall has free admission on Thursday evenings from 430-800pm the rest of the month of August, so we'll be there every week.  Hope to see you there!

I Love The Smell Of Garage Sales In The Morning

On a total blogging side note...Robert Duvall, you were a total hottie.

So we hit the jackpot for the kiddos today at some garage sales.  Batman pajamas (with cape) and a knights shield for Elliott for 50 cents!

And after driving by a few more sales I didn't even feel tempted to stop at, I got even crap at the curb!  My favorite!

Now I firmly believe in Curb Karma.  You put good stuff at the curb and you will get good stuff at the curb.  I have recently put a nice trash can, vacuum, humidifier, garden hose reel, wire rack & more out at the curb and had it all gone in hours.  Yesterday I hightailed it out to 33rd & Holdrege for some free Craigslist finds only to find NOTHING.  BOOOOOO.
So imagine my suprise & happiness when I discovered a big heap of kids stuff just waiting to be had!  A walker for Zoe.  Missing a toy or two from the front, but this is the ticket to getting her to walk then score for me!  Also a practically new Fisher Price ring stacker and some cars for Elliott including The Mystery Machine!

Thank you Curb Goddess, I shall continue to sacrafice goodies at your altar in repayment for the spoils you have put in front of me today!
